Chris Weidman vs. Lyoto Machida Betting Preview

Chris Weidman is defending his UFC Middleweight title for the third time this Saturday against Lyoto Machida. Weidman comes into this match as the favorite and he does so with good reason. Weidman is not only ranked as the fifth best pound for pound fighter in MMA and the number one fighter in the middleweight class, he’s also the only fighter who has managed to take down Anderson Silva in nearly a decade. In fact, he’s managed to accomplish that feat twice. Once in July of 2013 when he first attained the middleweight title and again in December of the same year when he successfully defended against the former title holder. All of that being said, Lyoto is not coming into this match to simply fill a spot and allow Weidman to showcase his dominance. The former Light Heavyweight UFC champion is coming off of two straight victories and one of them was his middleweight debut in which he knocked out Mark Munoz with a head kick. He also has a heavily mixed fighting style that could allow him to both match (or at least nearly keep up with) Weidman in the wrestling department and likely outdo him on two feet. Machida is well versed in both Shotokan Karate as well as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The UFC betting community in Canada has started to place their wagers on this match and we have some preliminary numbers on where the majority of the money is heading. As it stands right now, the underdog is being backed by most punters. Machida is getting more than 71% of the action. The favorite, Chris Weidman, has picked up just 29%. It’s still early for a wager like this so it’s very likely that these numbers will nearly flip by the time the fight starts.  The odds on Machida are simply not high enough to garner this kind of continued betting. He’s paying out at just a bit more than 1.5 times the investment and unless that number shift up to at least two times your money, the betting will start to flow towards the favorite.

Ronda Rousey vs. Alexis Davis Betting Preview

There are a lot of UFC analysts that feel that the fight between Rousey and Davis is going to be a close one, but the online sportsbooks do not share their feelings in any way. Davis is an enormous underdog going into this match and it’s not hard to see why the books have gone this route. While Davis is the veteran with a solid record, Rousey is at the top of her game and has managed to defend her Bantamweight title three times already since she won it in February of 2013. And while Davis is also well known for being one of the better grapplers in the UFC and in the sport in general, Rousey is as good as it gets in that department. The former Olympic bronze medalist has managed to take down eight of her nine previous opponents with her signature arm bar and five of her submissions have been achieved in the first minute of fighting. Before we count Davis out though, she has the ability to possibly keep up with Rousey on the ground given some variance in both of their performances and she will likely have an advantage when the two fighters are on their feet. More than a third of Davis’ victories have been from knockouts.

So far Canadian UFC bettors are backing the favorite and nearly 62% of the money is sitting on Rousey’s side. That is made all the more impressive by the fact that she’s is paying out at less than a 10% profit. Davis is getting a lot more betting than this severe of an underdog would usually get, but with her paying out so well and being a well known UFC fighter, it is understandable.
