UFC 173 Fight Betting Odds

UFC ufc-173-betting173 will be taking place on Saturday, May 24th in Las Vegas, Nevada. There are five Main Card fights taking place that night with the main event featuring Renan Barao and TJ Dillashaw scrapping it out for the Bantamweight title. The alternate main for this event will feature Dan Henderson and Daniel Cormier. There’s no title on the line for these two, but Dan Henderson’s future is certainly riding on the outcome. The 43 year old American has already been on the verge of UFC banishment and a loss here would not help that cause.

We’ve provided a betting preview for the top two matches as well as the betting odds for all of the Main Card fights. The UFC 173 odds are provided courtesy of Ladbrokes online sportsbook. Barao vs. Dillashaw Preview – The Main Event for UFC 173 is featuring a Bantamweight battle between Renan Barao and TJ Dillashaw.  Barao is the number one ranked UFC Bantamweight right now and this will be his fourth time defending the title. Dillashaw is the fifth ranked UFC Bantamweight and he wasn’t actually meant to fight Barao so soon.  He was originally slated to fight Takeya Mizugaki, the 6th ranked Bantamweight, but after Barao’s original opponent, Raphael Assuncao, was injured, the switch up was made. With such a great disparity in the rankings, Barao is getting a lot of credit as the favorite to win this match, but ranking alone is not the only reason. Fighting style is a big issue for these two as well. While Barao is well versed in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai, Dillashaw is almost strictly a grappler. The underdog has spent most of his fighting career as one of the top ranked wrestlers on the collegiate level and thirty percent of his UFC victories have been achieved by submission. What’s most troubling though, is that even though Dillashaw would appear to have the advantage on the ground, Barao may not be as far behind as everyone thinks. The nearly undefeated Bantamweight champion has 14 submissions in his 32 win UFC career. Most of those came more than five years ago, but they stand in the record none the less.

Dan Henderson vs. Daniel Cormier Preview – As we mentioned earlier, this fight is more about survival than anything else for Dan Henderson. The UFC veteran suffered an incredibly difficult year in 2013 in which he lost all three UFC fights in which he competed. He was on the verge of being ousted by the UFC’s top brass when one more fight put the veteran back on the map. His knock-out victory over Maurício Rua in March gave him the chance to keep hacking away at UFC greatness. Unfortunately for Henderson, he’s run into a bit of a juggernaut in this fight. His opponent for UFC 173, Daniel Cormier is sitting on a perfect 14-0-0 and in his Light Heavyweight debut against Patrick Cummins in February, he took the fight with a knockout in the first round. What’s even more unfortunate for Henderson is that it’s nearly impossible to find a statistic on which he outperforms his younger opponent. Cormier has a higher TKO percentage, he lands more strikes than Henderson, and the man has defended 100% of the takedowns attempted on him. If Henderson has any chance of winning this fight, he’ll need to come out quicker than usual and hopefully knock Cormier out before he has a chance to gain any ground or wear Henderson out.
