Saskatchewan Roughriders

If you told any of us after the first five games of the season that the Roughriders would be an underdog ever again in 2013, we would have thought you crazy. Unfortunately, after winning their first five games in a row, their first of many subsequent failures was handed to them by the same team they will face in the Western Division Finals, the Calgary Stampeders. That would not be their only loss to the Stamps in 2013 and it certainly wasn’t their only loss to them in recent history. Saskatchewan has an enormous statistical deficit when it comes to facing Calgary and that deficit adds up to only two victories in their last ten head to head meetings with them. So evenly matched with the Stamps in every aspect of the game, the only hope for Saskatchewan is that they outdo themselves in the rushing department as they did so well against BC last week. Darian Durant paired 270 yards of passing and two touchdowns with 97 yards of rushing. When your quarterback decides to put up rushing numbers like that to compliment a guy like Kory Sheets, it’s tough not to come away with a win.

Calgary Stampeders

The Stampeders made it to the Grey Cup Finals last year and they looked to be poised to do it again in 2013. They may not show any significant advantages over the Saskatchewan Roughriders when you look at the two teams as a whole, but they have a managed to get the job done against Saskatchewan time and time again over the last few seasons. With eight victories over the Riders in their last ten games and two of those wins coming in 2013, the Stampeders be going into this game with a lot of confidence. And regardless of who the Stamps would be playing in this game, their home record is enough to make us believe that they can get passed any opponent. The Stamps have won 14 out of their last 15 games at home. From the fans’ perspective a lot of the focus for this game will be on Jon Cornish. The league’s leading rusher for 2013 will be doing his best to outdo rival Kory Sheets on the ground. If he can, the Stamps offense will likely be more than the Riders can handle.

Over/Under Betting

William Hill has set the over/under for this game at 52.5 points which is fairly low considering that these two teams combine for an average of nearly 58 points per game. They’ve also both managed to hit the over in four of their last five CFL games.  The only thing going against them on this one is that they tend to score a little lower when they play each other heads up, but only by a couple of points on average.

CFL Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Calgary Stampeders Predictions

Knowing that Chris Shultz is just as confused as most of us are on this one is comforting, but not necessarily all that helpful. The TSN expert is making a leap though siding with Calgary on this one given their record against the Riders this year. A moneyline wager on the Stampeders will net you odds of 1.50 for this game. So for every $1,000 you put on Calgary, your potential profit is $500.
