Blue Jays vs Angels Betting Odds at Pinnacle Sports

jays-vs-angels-bettingThe Toronto Blue Jays will continue their current road trip as they take on the Anaheim Angels on Monday night in a series that features two teams headed in opposite directions.

The Angels are surging at the right time as they’ve won seven of the last 10 games and winners of four straight.  The Angels are currently 3 ½ games behind division leading Oakland and look to chip away at that lead as the vulnerable Blue Jays make their way into town.

The Blue Jays on the other hand are scuffling to say the least.  They’ve lost four straight games at the hands of the Athletics to begin their road trip, and it’s not going to get any easier for them on Monday night against the Angels.

Once atop the AL East standings, the Jays now find themselves two full games back of Baltimore, and will face a tough test against another playoff hopeful team in Anaheim.  Oh yeah, and they’re without slugging 1B Edwin Encarnacion as well after his departure from Sunday’s game in Oakland with a leg injury.

Monday’s series opener features Jered Weaver (9-6, 3.56 ERA) against Toronto’s J.A. Happ (7-4, 4.38 ERA).  Happ has actually been pitching well as of late, as the Jays are hoping to win their third straight win with the lefty on the mound.

The severity of this series for both teams is paramount for each teams playoff stretch run.  The Blue Jays have spent most of the year atop their perch of the AL East.  However with key injuries to star players and horribly inconsistent team play all around, they could easily find themselves out of playoff contention by the All-Star break.  The Angels are within striking distance (3 ½ games) behind the A’s, and have an increased pressure on them now that their division rivals added two monster SP in Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel.

Pinnacle Sports currently has Weaver and the Angels as heavy favourites to win on the moneyline paying (1.59) while the Blue Jays are paying (2.54).

With Encarnacion and 3B Brett Lawrie both injured the Blue Jays will have an even tougher time trying to put up runs against an Angels’ staff that is amongst the league leaders in ERA.

Game 2 on Tuesday night has the makings of another nightmare for the Blue Jays as they send R.A. Dickey (6-8, 4.10 ERA) to the mound against young fireballer Tyler Skaggs (4-4, 4.14 ERA).  Dickey has been horrible this year (what a surprise!) for the Jays, and although his last outing against the A’s was respectable, he’s spent the better part of this season serving up batting practice to the opposition.

The final game of the series is likely the only game Toronto may be looking towards for a win as they send their rookie Marcus Stroman (4-2, 3.44 ERA) to the mound against veteran lefty C.J. Wilson (8-6, 4.23 ERA).  Stroman and fellow younger Drew Hutchison have been the lone bright spot for the Blue Jays as they continue along another disappointing season.
